The 36th International Conference on Microelectronics, hosted by Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, brought together researchers, practitioners, and educators from around the world in Doha, Qatar. The theme of the conference was “Innovations in Circuits and Systems for a Sustainable Future,” with a focus on showcasing the latest research and technologies in the field through various sessions and talks by experts. Conversations also touched on broader industry contexts, including a panel discussion on the Middle East’s role in the global semiconductor sector.

Dr. Amine Bermak, conference co-chair and Professor at CSE, highlighted the collaboration between CSE and IEEE in advancing education, research, and capacity-building in microelectronics and circuits and systems. Keynote speakers included industry figures such as Dr. Achim Strass from Nexperia and Dr. Pradeep Elamanchili from Western Digital, as well as academic experts like Dr. Mihai Sanduleanu from Khalifa University of Science and Technology. The conference covered a wide range of topics, including biomedical engineering, communications systems, chaos theory, and energy-efficient computing.

Attendees had the opportunity to network with peers, explore potential collaborations, and showcase their research. University students were also able to participate in career development sessions to enhance their prospects in the circuits and systems field. Fahad Al Kuwari, Senior Manager Investor Relations at Invest Qatar, emphasized the importance of microelectronics and semiconductors in Qatar’s path to becoming a global innovation hub. The event facilitated dialogue among international experts to drive future breakthroughs and strengthen Qatar’s position in the technology landscape.

The conference featured tutorials on contemporary topics like AI, wearable electronics, healthcare, and sensors, as well as keynote addresses from renowned experts in academia and industry. With 83 technical research papers presented from 36 countries, the event showcased the collaboration between academia and industry in advancing knowledge and research in microelectronics. Partnerships with organizations like Invest Qatar, the QRDI Council, and the Qatar Free Zones Authority were instrumental in the successful hosting of the conference, highlighting the support from various sectors in advancing technology and innovation in Qatar.

Overall, the 36th International Conference on Microelectronics was a platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to connect, share insights, and collaborate on cutting-edge developments in the field. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the event paved the way for future advancements in microelectronics and semiconductor technologies, positioning Qatar as a key player in the global technology landscape. Through partnerships and dialogue, the conference highlighted the importance of collaboration in driving progress and growth in the industry.
