Australia and Saudi Arabia played to a 0-0 draw in their AFC Asian Qualifiers match at the Melbourne Rectangular Arena, leaving both teams with six points at the midway stage of the qualifiers. The game was filled with missed opportunities as both teams struggled to find the back of the net. Australia had several chances early on, but Saudi Arabia’s defense held strong. Saudi Arabia also had their opportunities, with goalkeeper Joe Gauci making crucial saves to keep Australia at bay.

In the first half, Australia had a free-kick opportunity in the seventh minute, but Saudi Arabia’s defensive wall blocked Ajdin Hrustic’s shot. Saudi Arabia came close to scoring in the 26th minute, but Gauci made a fine save to keep the game level. Australia wasted clear chances in the 33rd and 36th minutes, unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Just before halftime, Mitch Duke set up Hrustic for a shot, but Saudi goalkeeper Ahmed Al Kassar made an easy save.

The second half saw both teams continue to struggle to convert their chances. Saudi Arabia threatened early on, but their attempts were off target. Australia also had their opportunities, with Riley McGree and Duke missing chances from inside the box. As the game neared its end, both teams pushed for a late winner. Australia thought they had scored in the 83rd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review. Saudi Arabia also had a late chance, but Christian Burgess cleared the ball to prevent a goal.

Australia will face Bahrain in their next match, while Saudi Arabia will take on Indonesia. Both teams will be looking to secure a win and improve their standings in the AFC Asian Qualifiers. The draw between Australia and Saudi Arabia showed that both teams have solid defenses but need to work on finishing their opportunities. With the competition heating up in Group C, every point will be crucial for both teams as they aim to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup in 2023. Fans can expect exciting matches as the tournament unfolds, with Australia and Saudi Arabia fighting for a top spot in the group.
