Qatar Foundation’s biennial World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) opened with a focus on humanizing health, attracting health policymakers, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and practitioners to discuss solutions to global health issues. The 7th edition of the summit is themed ‘Humanizing Health: Conflict, Equity, and Resilience.’ The opening session was graced by Chairperson of Qatar Foundation H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, along with Minister of Public Health H E Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, and other dignitaries.

Health Minister H E Al Kuwari emphasized the urgent need to address challenges and hardships in the health sector, especially in conflict zones. The Summit theme of conflict, equity, and resilience highlights the commitment to rebuilding lives, restoring hope, and creating a future defined by compassion and resilience. Dr. Christos Christou stressed the need for accountability in protecting healthcare facilities and workers, emphasizing the impact of attacks on health facilities in conflict zones.

During the opening ceremony, a film highlighted the story of a Palestinian girl who lost family members in an attack in Gaza, showcasing the devastating impact of conflict on health. The summit featured discussions on reports published through a partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), covering topics such as protecting health in armed conflict, antimicrobial resistance, and healthcare ethics. Additional sessions focused on women’s cancer, palliative care, and the war in Sudan, with upcoming discussions on mental health, obesity, and diabetes.

The summit aims to address pressing health issues and promote innovation in healthcare, with the announcement of winners in innovation competitions and the launch of a new CARDIO4Cities initiative. The event underscores the importance of collaboration and cooperation in finding solutions to global health challenges, reflecting Qatar’s commitment to fostering understanding and driving progress in the healthcare sector. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, WISH 7 seeks to promote human-centered approaches to health and resilience in the face of conflict and equity concerns.
