HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, recently attended the opening of the 7th edition of Qatar Foundation’s World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) in Doha. The event, held at the Qatar National Convention Center, took place on November 13-14 with the theme “Humanizing Health: Conflict, Equity, and Resilience”. The summit aimed to highlight the importance of health innovation that supports everyone, especially vulnerable communities and regions affected by armed conflict.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, along with other dignitaries, policy-makers, scientists, and specialists from around the world. Former Minister of Public Health HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari praised the healthcare sector in Qatar for its transformation, thanks to the support of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Qatar National Vision 2030. She emphasized the country’s goal to enhance the health and well-being of its people through a solid healthcare system and the Public Health Strategy for 2024.
HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari expressed her gratitude to healthcare leaders and workers in Qatar for their continuous efforts to improve patient care. She congratulated HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud on his appointment as Minister of Public Health. The WISH conference was highlighted as a source of inspiration for innovation and collaboration in the health field, focusing on safe, accessible, and humane healthcare while addressing pressing health challenges. The conference also aims to promote cutting-edge health developments and innovations.
WISH 2024 aims to address important topics such as antimicrobial resistance, mental health, palliative care, tuberculosis, and women’s health. There is an urgent need to invest more in women’s health, prevention measures, and vaccination to ensure the health of future generations. The conference will also discuss precision healthcare, childhood obesity, and the impact of air quality in arid areas. A national plan on childhood obesity and associated risk factors will be launched to enhance healthcare locally and internationally.
The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), an initiative of Qatar Foundation, seeks to improve global health by developing a knowledge base of innovative and evidence-based ideas and practices in healthcare. It serves as a platform for leaders looking to bring real change to the healthcare sector. The 7th edition of WISH will focus on four main tracks including Health of Vulnerable and Minority Populations, Health and Armed Conflict, System-level Innovation and Change, and Community-Led Engagement and Intervention. The event aims to address current health challenges and promote international cooperation in finding solutions.
