Number of Labor Complaints in Bahrain Increases to 294 in the First Nine Months of 2024

The Monitoring Committee at the Private Sector Secretariat of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions has been actively addressing labour complaints and requests for assistance and advice. In September 2024, a total of 29 labour complaints and 63 requests were recorded, bringing the year’s total to 294 complaints. The majority of complaints were related to termination and labour rights, with 14 cases concerning wrongful dismissals. The healthcare industry reported the highest number of complaints, followed by the construction and trade sectors.

The statistics revealed that the majority of complaints were filed by men, totaling 211 cases, while women accounted for 63 cases. The most common issues raised were related to termination, restructuring, and closures. The committee received requests for assistance and advice from 41 male workers and 22 female workers, highlighting the diverse range of challenges faced by workers in Bahrain’s private sector.

April recorded the highest number of labour complaints with 176 cases, followed by September with 29, May with 24, and June with 14. This trend indicates a consistent need for support and intervention in resolving workplace disputes and ensuring fair treatment for employees. The data underscores the importance of ongoing monitoring and advocacy efforts to protect the rights of workers in Bahrain.

By sector, the healthcare industry had the highest number of complaints, reflecting potential issues within this sector that need to be addressed. The construction and trade sectors also reported a significant number of complaints, suggesting the need for closer attention to labour practices in these areas. The committee’s work in addressing these complaints is crucial in ensuring that workers’ rights are respected and protected.

The Private Sector Secretariat of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions plays a vital role in advocating for fair treatment and resolving disputes within the private sector. The committee’s efforts in recording and addressing labour complaints demonstrate its commitment to upholding workers’ rights and promoting a fair and just working environment.
