The US presidential election has come to a close, with voters deciding between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The outcome of this election, which has been closely watched in Europe, is expected to be determined by seven swing states. While many states have already been projected for either candidate, all eyes are now on battleground states such as Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Tens of millions of US citizens had already cast their votes before election day, and the results could have far-reaching implications on US relations with Europe, particularly in terms of aid to Ukraine, NATO, and transatlantic trade.

Europe is closely watching the election, with some expecting a Harris administration to continue the status quo and a second Trump administration to be more protectionist and less invested in allies’ security. The election will also determine who controls both houses of the US Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives. With 34 Senate seats up for grabs, Democrats hope to maintain their slim majority, while all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for election as well. The makeup of Congress will have a significant impact on the next presidency, regardless of which candidate wins the presidency.

Apart from the White House and Congress, Americans are also voting on statewide ballot initiatives on various issues, including abortion access and the legalization of marijuana. The elections have been closely followed both domestically and internationally, with many eagerly waiting for the final results to see what the future holds for US-Europe relations and the direction of US policy on key issues. Stay updated on the latest news and analysis on the US elections to understand the implications of this consequential election on various aspects of American governance.
