In November 2024, the Sultanate of Oman will host the 35th conference of Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (AFLI) in Muscat. The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The theme of the conference is “Role of Arab libraries and archive institutions in promoting citizenship and digital identity”. The conference aims to bring together Omani specialists and Arab experts to discuss ways to enhance the efficiency of libraries and archive institutions as vital sources for intellectual development in society.

The conference will focus on addressing the challenges faced by libraries and archive institutions in establishing a digital environment that respects privacy and maximizes the use of data. This includes optimizing resources and embracing modern technologies to ensure that these institutions are at the forefront of providing valuable information to the public. By creating a platform for exchanging ideas and showcasing innovative models, the conference seeks to enhance the role of libraries and archives in promoting citizenship and shaping digital identities in the Arab world.

Attendees of the conference can expect to participate in workshops and discussion panels where experiences and innovations in library and archive management will be shared. This exchange of ideas will shed light on trends and best practices for achieving sustainability and supporting individuals and institutions in the field. The conference aims to foster collaboration among participants and encourage the implementation of new strategies to improve the functions of libraries and archive institutions in the Arab region.

One of the key objectives of the conference is to highlight the importance of libraries and archives as essential tools for developing intellectual awareness in society. By showcasing pioneering models and sharing insights on how to upgrade the efficiency of these institutions, participants will gain valuable knowledge on how to enhance the role of libraries and archives in shaping digital identities and promoting citizenship. The event will serve as a platform for networking and building relationships among professionals in the field.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, libraries and archive institutions face the challenge of adapting to new technologies while ensuring that privacy and data protection are maintained. The conference will explore strategies for optimizing resources and leveraging modern technologies to create a digital environment that meets the needs of users while upholding ethical standards. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions on how to overcome these challenges and promote the value of libraries and archives in the digital age.

Overall, the 35th AFLI conference in Muscat presents a unique opportunity for Omani specialists and Arab experts to come together and exchange ideas on ways to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of libraries and archive institutions in the Arab world. By focusing on the role of these institutions in promoting citizenship and digital identity, the conference aims to advance the field of library and information science while addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital age. Participants can look forward to engaging in workshops, discussions, and networking opportunities that will contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of libraries and archives in the region.
