In the lead-up to the US election on 5 November, Euronews correspondents across Europe have been reporting on the public sentiment towards the candidates. Polls in Greece show that a majority of citizens believe that Kamala Harris will become the first female president of the US, with only 32% believing that Donald Trump will be re-elected. In Germany, two-thirds of Germans prefer Harris to be the next US president, with only 12% supporting Trump. The outcome of the US election could have serious consequences for NATO, regardless of who wins.

In Hungary, the government has made the US presidential election a domestic political issue, with the budget announcement postponed in anticipation of the outcome. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been a vocal supporter of Trump, with 75% of his voters wanting Trump to win. However, opposition parties and voters do not align with this sentiment, with only the far-right Our Country Party supporting Trump. In Portugal, a survey shows that 70% of citizens would vote for Harris, believing that she is the likely winner. The outcome of the US election is expected to influence the economy, social progress, and management of armed conflicts in Portugal.

A report from Spain reveals that 75% of Spaniards believe a Harris victory would be better for the country than Trump’s re-election. The socialist government openly supports Harris, while the ruling Popular Party has not taken an official position. In France, a survey shows that half of French people have been closely following the US presidential campaign, with a majority supporting Harris over Trump. Many believe that Harris is the best candidate to provide solutions to global crises, particularly in Ukraine and the Middle East. In Italy, a poll indicates that 78% of Italians support Harris, reflecting the sentiment on the streets of the capital.

As the US election approaches, European citizens are closely following the campaign and expressing strong preferences for Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. Public opinion polls across Europe show a clear preference for Harris, with many believing that she is the best candidate to address global crises and bring positive change. The outcome of the US election is expected to have significant implications for Europe, particularly in terms of foreign policy and international relations. As the candidates make their final push in the remaining days leading up to the election, the eyes of Europe are closely watching the developments and eagerly awaiting the results.
