The Hindu calendar year of Samvat 2081 has begun on a positive note for Indian stocks, with both Sensex and Nifty closing higher after two days of losses. All sectoral indices opened in the green during the Muhurat Trading hour, with only Nifty IT closing marginally lower. The exchange platforms, BSE and NSE, were open for trading from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm, marking the beginning of Samvat 2081. The tradition of Muhurat trading dates back a long time, with the belief that investments made during this auspicious time will bring good returns.

During the Muhurat trading session, all market segments are open, including equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options (F&O), and securities lending and borrowing (SLB). It is believed that investments made during this one-hour special trade will bring good fortunes to investors. Many people also time their purchases of precious metals, real estate, electronic items, and automobiles on this auspicious day. The trading volumes at exchanges are usually high during this period, with lots of orders being placed across various sectors.

Last year, the benchmark stock indices soared significantly during the Muhurat trading session, bringing cheer to investors. Data over the past ten years shows that markets have closed in the red only three times during this special trading session, indicating a likelihood of festive cheer in the coming sessions. The number of investors participating in Muhurat trading has been increasing over the years, reflecting the significance of this auspicious time for making investments.

Vikram Kasat, Head of Advisory at PL Capital – Prabhudas Lilladher, had mentioned that historical data shows a positive trend during the Muhurat trading session. This positive sentiment during the one-hour trading period is likely to carry forward into the festive season. Investors are hopeful of good returns on their investments made during this auspicious time. The positive start to the Hindu calendar year indicates a bright outlook for the stock market in the coming months.

Overall, the Muhurat trading session on Diwali evening marked a positive start for investors, with benchmark indices closing higher. The tradition of Muhurat trading is deeply rooted in belief and superstition, with many investors timing their trades and purchases during this auspicious hour. As the new Hindu calendar year of Samvat 2081 begins, investors are hopeful of a prosperous and profitable year ahead.
