The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Qatar recently celebrated the country’s Republic Day on October 23, commemorating Kazakhstan’s declaration of sovereignty on October 25, 1990, and subsequent independence from the Soviet Union on December 16, 1991. The event was marked with traditional folk music and dances, showcasing the rich heritage and culture of the Kazakh people, and guests were treated to national delicacies. Ambassador of Kazakhstan H E Arman Issagaliyev expressed his pleasure in welcoming guests to the official reception, highlighting the importance of Kazakhstan’s journey towards independence over the past 34 years.
H E Issagaliyev emphasized the significant progress Kazakhstan has made in building a balanced foreign policy, creating an attractive business environment, and contributing to global stability. He also underscored the growing ties between Kazakhstan and Qatar, attributing this success to the strong support from allies, partners, and friendly states. The establishment of a strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Qatar during President H E Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Doha earlier this year marked a pivotal moment in the history of both nations. This partnership aims to enhance bilateral relations and foster productive potential, innovation, and creativity in various fields.
During the visit, President Tokayev chaired the Kazakhstan-Qatar Investment Roundtable in Doha, further strengthening political dialogue between the two countries. Additionally, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit to Kazakhstan in July as part of the Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization further solidified the relationship. A key milestone in strengthening ties was the agreement on the establishment of a long-term strategic partnership for the development of projects in priority industries signed by the Heads of Government in March. Currently, Kazakhstan and Qatar are working together on joint investment projects totaling over $20 billion in areas such as telecommunication, energy, transportation, petrochemistry, finance, and agriculture.
President Tokayev’s annual state-of-the-nation address titled ‘Just Kazakhstan: Law and Order, Economic Growth, Public Optimism’ on September 2 outlined key goals for the nation’s development, focusing on sustainable economic progress. The hope is that Qatar will continue to be a significant partner in Kazakhstan’s strategic and large-scale economic projects. The two countries also enjoy cooperation in parliamentary relations, military affairs, education, and technology. Given the rapid growth of the IT sector in Qatar, Kazakhstan sees great potential in developing joint projects with the country, leveraging Kazakhstan’s leading position in the global IT sector driven by state and private companies in the country. With mutual respect, support, and a shared vision for future growth, Kazakhstan and Qatar are poised to further enhance their strategic partnership and collaboration across various sectors in the coming years.
