King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) recently signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to provide $25 million in food aid to the most vulnerable families in Yemen. The agreement aims to distribute 13,798 tons of essential food items and activities to strengthen resilience in participating families. This initiative is expected to benefit over half a million individuals directly and an additional 57,313 people indirectly across several governorates in Yemen, including Hudaydah, Dhale, Marib, Al-Bayda, Hadhramaut, Al-Mahrah, and Socotra.
The agreement, signed during the Donors’ Conference to Support Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Sahel and Lake Chad Region in Jeddah, highlights the Kingdom’s dedication to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis and improving food security in the region. Additionally, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief, met with WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau to discuss the progress of KSrelief-WFP projects, which focus on providing essential food aid and enhancing living conditions in needy communities.
The cooperation agreement between KSrelief and WFP will focus on establishing and rehabilitating resources to support the food chain over six cycles. Activities will include the rehabilitation of agricultural lands, construction of water barriers, and provision of equipment for fishermen in Yemen. This program aims to not only provide immediate food aid to vulnerable families but also to strengthen their resilience and improve their living conditions in the long term.
