The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz) in Oman recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority of Jordan in an effort to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various economic fields. The MoU covers areas such as attracting investments to special economic zones, exchanging knowledge and expertise on laws and regulations, and exploring the possibility of establishing joint projects to enhance cooperation between the two parties. The aim of the MoU is to create an international institutional framework for the special economic zones in both countries to enhance their competitiveness and cooperation across different fields.

The agreement includes the exchange of experiences in managing, operating, and developing special economic zones, including urban planning, facilities management, and the investment environment. It also involves collaboration on data and information exchange related to infrastructure projects and joint promotional programs to attract investments in special economic zones. In the logistics sector, the parties will coordinate to utilize transportation, storage, and distribution facilities to open new export channels and increase the volume of exports to regional and international markets at lower costs. The MoU also includes plans to organize meetings with investors and trade institutions to introduce the facilities provided by the cooperation.

The cooperation between Opaz and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority aims to enhance the development and competitiveness of the special economic zones in Oman and Jordan by exchanging knowledge and expertise in various fields. The parties will work together to attract investments, share experiences in managing special economic zones, and coordinate logistics activities to increase exports. This cooperation will benefit investors in both countries by providing them with access to new opportunities and facilities in the special economic zones.

The signing of the MoU marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between Oman and Jordan and enhancing cooperation in various sectors. By sharing experiences, knowledge, and resources, both countries will be able to benefit from each other’s expertise in managing, operating, and developing special economic zones. The collaboration will also lead to the establishment of an international institutional framework for the zones in both countries, aiming to improve their competitiveness and attract more investments.

The exchange of experiences in areas such as urban planning, facilities management, and smart city applications will provide valuable insights for both parties to improve the development and operation of special economic zones. By collaborating on infrastructure projects and logistics activities, Oman and Jordan can streamline their operations and reduce costs to increase exports and attract more investors. The upcoming meetings with investors and trade institutions will further promote the benefits of this cooperation and attract additional investments to the special economic zones of both countries.

Overall, the signing of the MoU between Opaz and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority is a positive development that will enhance economic cooperation between Oman and Jordan and lead to the development of their special economic zones. By working together to exchange knowledge and expertise, the two countries will be able to benefit from each other’s strengths and improve the competitiveness of their zones. This collaboration will open up new opportunities for investors and businesses in both countries and contribute to the overall economic growth and development of the region.
