Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi recently met with participants of the ‘Khebarat’ programme in Qatar. The program aims to send Qatari teachers to Finland to learn from the Finnish education system and implement best practices in Qatar. Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of adopting these practices to benefit the local context, while also highlighting the strengths of Qatar’s educational system, including values and ethics. He urged the teachers to represent their country well and make a valuable contribution to the education system upon their return.

The 14 male and female teachers, along with their parents and companions, will be sent to Finland from October 21 to November 29, 2024. During their visit, they will explore the Finnish education experience, participate in classroom immersion lessons, and interact with peers in Finnish schools. This program follows the success of the first cohort of the ‘Khebarat’ program, which has helped enhance the professional growth of teachers in Qatar.

In preparation for their trip, officials from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education provided the teachers and their companions with guidelines and instructions for their stay in Finland. Topics discussed included the school environment, systems and procedures, the educational community, weather and living conditions, transportation, and Finnish society’s cultural and social context. This preparation aims to ensure that the teachers have a smooth and enriching experience during their time in Finland.

Iman Al Mahannadi, the Director of the Training and Development Office at the Ministry, expressed her happiness about completing the procedures for the second cohort of teachers participating in the ‘Khebarat’ program. The program now includes new specializations such as Arabic language, business administration, and information technology, based on the success of the first cohort. The program content covers various aspects of education, including planning, assessment, classroom management, individual differences, teaching and learning strategies, and technology integration within Finnish schools.

Overall, the ‘Khebarat’ program aims to bridge the gap between Qatar’s education system and international best practices, particularly those of Finland. By sending teachers to Finland to learn and exchange expertise, Qatar hopes to enhance the professional growth of its educators and improve the overall education system in the country. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is committed to providing teachers with opportunities for professional development and growth, ultimately benefiting the students and educational community in Qatar. The program’s expansion to cover new specializations shows its success and the positive impact it has had on the participating teachers.
