Building permits issuance increases by 223% in Q3

The construction sector in Doha, Qatar experienced a significant surge in building permits issued by municipalities during the third quarter of 2024, as reported by the Ministry of Municipality. The issuance of building permits increased by 223% compared to the second quarter of the same year, with all eight municipalities granting a total of 4,332 permits. Al Rayyan Municipality led the way with 1,213 permits, followed by Doha Municipality with 912 permits. This growth in building permits is a positive sign for the construction sector and the overall national economy.

In the second quarter of 2024, Al Rayyan Municipality also led in the issuance of building permits, with 400 permits, followed by Doha Municipality with 338 permits. Al Daayen Municipality, Al Wakra Municipality, and Umm Salal Municipality also issued a significant number of permits during that period. It is evident that there has been a steady increase in the issuance of building permits, indicating a strong performance in the construction sector.

Data on building permits and completion certificates are crucial for monitoring the construction sector’s performance, which plays a vital role in the national economy. The National Planning Council revealed that in August 2024, Al Rayyan Municipality continued to lead in the issuance of building permits, accounting for 33% of all permits issued. Al Da’ayen Municipality, Al Doha Municipality, and Al Wakrah municipality followed closely behind, showing a healthy distribution of permits across various municipalities.

In terms of the types of permits issued, new building permits made up a significant portion of the total, with 39% of permits being allocated for new construction projects. Addition permits and fencing permits also contributed to the total number of permits issued. In the residential sector, villas dominated new residential building permits, followed by apartment building permits and other types of residential permits. In the non-residential sector, service and infrastructure buildings were the most common types of permits issued, indicating a diverse range of construction activities taking place in Doha.

The increase in building permits in the third quarter of 2024 is a positive sign for the construction sector in Doha, Qatar. With significant growth in the issuance of permits across all municipalities, it is clear that there is a strong demand for new construction projects in the area. This surge in building permits not only reflects the vitality of the construction sector but also signals potential economic growth and development in the region.

Overall, the data on building permits issued by municipalities in Doha, Qatar highlights the continued expansion and activity in the construction sector. With a diverse range of permits being issued for residential and non-residential projects, there is a clear indication of a robust construction market in the area.
