In response to the recent wave of layoffs affecting over 400 Bahraini workers, lawmakers in the Council of Representatives have approved an urgent proposal to create immediate job opportunities for those who have been dismissed. The aim of the proposal is to prioritize Bahraini workers and enhance their status in the job market, especially in light of companies benefiting from Tamkeen support laying off their Bahraini employees. MP Zainab Abdul Amir highlighted instances where companies have let go of their Bahraini workers, such as a bank dismissing 26 employees and a hospital laying off 36. MP Mohammed Al Rifai expressed concern over the Ministry of Labour’s ability to manage these escalating layoffs, noting the irony of companies seeking new hires while letting go of qualified personnel.

The urgent proposal approved by the Council of Representatives seeks to protect the rights of Bahraini workers in the labour market amidst the increasing number of layoffs. MP Abdul Amir, a key supporter of the proposal, emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure suitable employment for Bahraini workers and their families. This initiative aligns with the national labour market strategy launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which aims to uphold the rights and benefits of all workers. The impact of these layoffs is not only felt by the workers themselves, but also by their families who are now facing financial burdens and threats to their living standards as a result of the sudden job losses.

The approval of this urgent proposal comes as a response to the growing concern over the escalating number of Bahraini workers being laid off by various companies. Lawmakers are working to address this issue and provide immediate job opportunities for those affected by the layoffs. The focus is on prioritizing Bahraini workers and protecting their rights in the labour market, especially as companies benefiting from government support are letting go of their Bahraini employees. This initiative reflects a commitment to supporting the local workforce and ensuring their continued employment and financial stability in the face of challenging economic conditions.

MP Zainab Abdul Amir’s highlighting of specific cases where Bahraini workers have been dismissed by companies sheds light on the severity of the situation and the urgent need for intervention. With banks, hospitals, and private companies among those laying off Bahraini employees, the impact on the affected workers and their families is significant. MP Mohammed Al Rifai’s concerns about the Ministry of Labour’s ability to manage these layoffs underscore the importance of taking immediate action to address the issue and protect the rights of Bahraini workers in the labour market. The urgent proposal approved by the Council of Representatives aims to do just that by prioritizing Bahraini workers and securing suitable employment opportunities for them in the wake of these job losses.

The implementation of the urgent proposal approved by the Council of Representatives is a crucial step towards addressing the challenges faced by Bahraini workers who have been laid off by companies across various sectors. By prioritizing Bahraini workers and protecting their rights in the job market, lawmakers are working to mitigate the impact of the layoffs on affected individuals and their families. The support for this initiative from key lawmakers, including MP Zainab Abdul Amir, highlights the commitment to providing immediate job opportunities for Bahraini workers and ensuring their continued employment and financial stability. As efforts continue to address the issue of escalating layoffs and support the local workforce, the focus remains on protecting the rights and benefits of all workers in Bahrain’s labour market.
