Vice President Kamala Harris recently appeared in a contentious interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, where she addressed questions on immigration and policy differences from the Biden administration. Harris asserted that her presidency would not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s, emphasizing her unique life experiences and fresh ideas. This marked her first appearance on the network, aiming to reach out to conservative viewers with less than three weeks until Election Day.

Despite Baier and Harris repeatedly talking over each other during the nearly 30-minute interview, Harris tried to steer the conversation towards criticisms of former President Donald Trump. She expressed her desire to turn the page from the divisive rhetoric of the past decade and presented herself as a new generation of leadership. When addressing immigration, Harris expressed remorse for the deaths of women at the hands of individuals who had been detained and released under the Biden administration’s policies. She also criticized Trump for hindering a bipartisan immigration bill earlier this year that aimed to increase border funding.

Harris’s position on decriminalizing crossing the border illegally has also shifted since 2019, indicating that she now supports following the law. She emphasized that her presidency would bring a different approach to immigration policy compared to the previous administration. Additionally, she refuted claims that she would continue Biden’s presidency, stating that she would bring her own experiences and ideas to the role of president.

In response to Trump’s behavior and leadership style, Harris highlighted his focus on personal grievances and attacks on political opponents. She characterized Trump as unstable and exhausted, and sought to draw attention to his divisive language and threats towards those he perceives as enemies within the political sphere. Despite the tense interview, Harris attempted to showcase her vision for a new era of leadership that focuses on unity and progress.

By appearing on Fox News, Harris aimed to broaden her appeal to GOP-leaning voters and engage with conservative viewers. She faced tough questions from Baier on various policy issues but remained resolute in her commitment to turning the page from the past and bringing a new perspective to the presidency. Through her interview, Harris sought to differentiate herself from both the Biden administration and Trump’s presidency, presenting her candidacy as a fresh start for American leadership.
