Saudi Arabia, host of the upcoming 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, is calling on countries and organizations to participate effectively in this important event. The Technical Committee for the Environment of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment recently met in Jeddah to discuss preparations for the conference, as well as other environmental issues. Among the topics on the agenda were the Arab position on agreements related to combating desertification and biodiversity, Arab cooperation with the G20 global initiative to reduce land degradation, and preparations for the conference in Riyadh.

One of the key discussions during the meeting was the selection of the Arab Environment Capital, based on recommendations from the jury of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs Award. In addition, the committee addressed challenges and proposed solutions to environmental crises and disasters in some Arab countries. This highlights the importance of collaboration and cooperation in addressing pressing environmental issues in the region.

The 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16) is a significant event that will bring together countries and organizations to discuss ways to combat desertification and preserve wild habitats. With the conference being hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, it presents an opportunity for countries to showcase their efforts in environmental conservation and sustainability. The Kingdom’s call for effective participation underscores the urgency of taking action to protect the environment.

The Technical Committee for the Environment’s meeting in Jeddah also touched on the Arab cooperation with the G20 global initiative to reduce land degradation. This highlights the importance of international partnerships in addressing environmental challenges that transcend national borders. By working together, countries can pool their resources and expertise to find sustainable solutions to land degradation and habitat preservation.

As countries grapple with environmental crises and disasters, the need for coordinated efforts becomes more pressing. The discussions during the committee meeting shed light on the challenges facing some Arab countries and the proposed solutions to address these issues. By sharing best practices and experiences, countries can learn from each other and improve their environmental policies and practices for the benefit of present and future generations. The upcoming conference in Riyadh provides a platform for countries to come together and collectively address these challenges.
