Carnegie Mellon University hosts the largest event in QCPC history

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar recently hosted the fifth annual Qatar Collegiate Programming Competition, attracting a record number of participants. A total of 114 teams, consisting of 349 students and coaches from universities and high schools in Doha, competed in this event. After a competitive weekend, CMU-Q’s Thang Bui-Nguyen, George Chkhaidze, and Dilshodbek Khujaev emerged as the top team in the university track, solving an impressive 11 out of 13 problems. In the high school track, Aditya Menon and Yash Sah from DPS Monarch International School secured the top position by solving six problems, matching the results of second and third ranked teams in the university track.

Michael Trick, the Dean of CMU-Q, expressed his delight at the level of enthusiasm shown by the youth of Qatar towards programming. He emphasized that programming competitions are not just about a single event, but also about fostering a community centered around creative problem-solving. Trick commended the passion for programming displayed by the participating students and emphasized the importance of nurturing this interest. The success of the competition reflects the growing interest in programming and computer science among the students in Qatar.

Participating in coding competitions provides students with an opportunity to hone their problem-solving skills, think critically, and collaborate with their peers.
