A sanctuary in Thailand, which is home to over 100 elephants and other animals, recently experienced severe flooding that reached up to five meters in water levels. This catastrophic event resulted in the disappearance of four elephants, including Fah Sai and Ploy Thong. Fah Sai, known for being a skilled swimmer, was swept away by the floodwaters during a rescue attempt, while Ploy Thong, a blind elephant, was carried out of her enclosure. Tragically, their bodies were discovered five kilometers downstream from the sanctuary. In memory of these elephants, Sangduean Chailert, the sanctuary’s founder, buried them near the site and planted trees as a tribute to their lives.

The sanctuary, which is dedicated to providing a safe and caring environment for elephants and other animals, has faced numerous challenges due to the recent flooding. The floodwaters have severely impacted the daily operations of the sanctuary, making it difficult to provide proper care for the animals. In addition to the physical damage caused by the floods, the emotional toll on the staff and volunteers at the sanctuary has been profound, as they mourn the loss of Fah Sai and Ploy Thong. The sanctuary is now focused on repairing the damage caused by the floods and ensuring the safety and well-being of the remaining animals in their care.

The loss of Fah Sai and Ploy Thong has had a significant impact on the community of animal lovers and conservationists who support the sanctuary. These beloved elephants were known for their unique personalities and close bonds with the staff and other animals at the sanctuary. Their tragic deaths serve as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by wildlife sanctuaries in the face of natural disasters and environmental threats. Many supporters of the sanctuary have come together to offer their condolences and assistance in the recovery efforts, providing much-needed support and resources to help the sanctuary rebuild and continue its important work.

In the wake of the devastating flooding, the sanctuary is grateful for the outpouring of support and generosity from the local community and animal lovers around the world. Donations of food, supplies, and financial contributions have poured in to help the sanctuary recover from the damage caused by the floods and ensure the well-being of the remaining animals. The sanctuary is working tirelessly to restore the facilities and structures that were damaged by the floods, as well as implementing new measures to prevent similar disasters in the future. With the support of their dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters, the sanctuary is determined to overcome this tragedy and continue their mission of providing a safe and loving home for elephants and other animals in need.

As the sanctuary mourns the loss of Fah Sai and Ploy Thong, they are also celebrating the lives of the many other animals that call the sanctuary their home. From playful elephants to rescued dogs, the sanctuary is a haven for animals in need of love and care. Despite the challenges they have faced, the sanctuary remains committed to their mission of protecting and caring for vulnerable animals, and they are grateful for the continued support of the global community. The memory of Fah Sai and Ploy Thong will live on at the sanctuary, inspiring others to join in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of animals and the environment.
