Oman and India to Collaborate on Naval Operations

Vice Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) and Rear Admiral Saif Nasser Al Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) recently received Vice Admiral Vennam Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command of the Republic of India, along with his military delegation. The meetings focused on discussing various topics of common interest and reviewing existing cooperation in naval military fields between Oman and India. The discussions also included ways to enhance this cooperation further in the future.

The meeting at the SAF’s headquarters was attended by Brigadier Hamed Abdullah Al Balushi, SAF Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Planning, senior COSAF officers, and the Military Attaché of India’s embassy in Muscat. On the other hand, the meeting at RNO’s office was attended by senior RNO officers and the Military Attaché in the Indian embassy in Muscat. These discussions are essential for strengthening the ties between the two countries and ensuring effective collaboration in the field of defense and security.

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India have a history of good relations, which extends to their defense and security cooperation. Both countries share common strategic interests and face similar challenges in the region. Strengthening naval cooperation between Oman and India is crucial for ensuring maritime security in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. These meetings serve as a platform for discussing mutual concerns and finding solutions to common issues.

The collaboration between Oman and India in the naval military field includes joint exercises, training programs, and information sharing. Such cooperation enhances the capabilities of both countries’ naval forces and contributes to maintaining peace and stability in the region. By discussing ways to further enhance this cooperation, Vice Admiral Srinivas and the Omani military officials aim to strengthen their partnership and address emerging security threats effectively.

The presence of the Indian military delegation in Muscat reflects the significance that both countries attach to their defense partnership. Oman and India have been conducting joint military exercises to improve their interoperability and strengthen their defense capabilities. By exchanging knowledge and expertise, they can better tackle common challenges like piracy, terrorism, and illegal activities in the maritime domain. These meetings are a step towards deepening the trust and collaboration between the two nations.
