Abdulrahman, a Pakistani worker who came to the UAE 22 years ago at the age of 16, found a second family in his Emirati employer’s home. Despite visiting his family in Pakistan annually, Abdulrahman feels like a stranger when he returns to his home country. He was brought to the UAE by Khalfan Humaid Al Mutaiwai’s father, who described Abdulrahman as someone he trusts and relies on for everything. Abdulrahman quickly became close to Khalfan’s family, especially his father, whom he considered a brother and a family member.

Abdulrahman’s dedication extended to managing most of the tasks on the farm and at home, even in Khalfan’s absence. His bond with Khalfan’s father was deep, with Abdulrahman reminiscing about their time together. After Khalfan’s father passed away, Abdulrahman felt a profound sense of loss. Despite this, Khalfan’s family continues to support him, addressing all his needs and assisting his family in Pakistan. Their support extended to covering Abdulrahman’s medical expenses during a period of illness.

In another heartwarming story, Emirati citizen Saeed Al Shard reflects on his 47-year bond with Abbas, a domestic worker who has been part of their family since 1977. Abbas arrived in the UAE at the age of 14 and became integrated into Saeed’s family under the guidance of his late mother. Despite initially expressing concerns about not having children, Abbas eventually had three daughters, whom he cherishes deeply. Over the years, Abbas’s family members have also joined in their shared journey, fostering unique and collaborative relationships.

Saeed emphasises the rare beauty of enduring connections like the one he shares with Abbas. Such relationships are built on mutual respect and wisdom, creating a foundation of trust and care that enriches their lives. Both Abdulrahman and Abbas’s stories highlight the special bonds that can form between employees and employers, transcending the boundaries of duty and transforming into lifelong friendships and family relationships. These heartwarming tales showcase the power of compassion, trust, and genuine care in creating lasting connections that stand the test of time.
