Expo City Dubai has recently approved a new master plan that will accommodate residential facilities for 76,000 individuals. This plan was sanctioned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The residential facilities will cover 3.5 sq km across five districts, providing homes for over 35,000 residents and 40,000 professionals. Additionally, the expansion plan includes the establishment of business complexes for specialized companies and a new international exhibition center worth Dh10 billion.
Sheikh Mohammed described the new master plan as a pivotal step in the emirate’s long-term vision, positioning Expo City Dubai as a hub for pioneers, entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, educators, and students. This vibrant community is expected to attract both residents and visitors, fostering a nurturing environment for all. The plan was endorsed in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE.
Sheikh Hamdan mentioned that Expo City Dubai reflects Sheikh Mohammed’s vision of creating a future-ready city that promotes sustainability, seizes opportunities, and enhances the quality of life for its inhabitants. This initiative is not only aimed at supporting the growth of key infrastructures like Al Maktoum Airport and Jebel Ali Port but also aligns with the objectives of the 2040 Dubai Urban Master Plan. Expo City is designated as one of the five primary urban centers in this comprehensive urban development strategy.
The newly approved master plan also includes the establishment of the global headquarters for DP World, a leading facilitator of international trade and a flagship organization in the UAE. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO, highlighted the strategic location of Expo City Dubai, emphasizing its proximity to Dubai’s Logistics Corridor, which connects Jebel Ali Port with Al Maktoum International Airport. This corridor is expected to significantly reduce sea-air transfer times, benefiting businesses in the region.
Expo City Dubai’s new master plan features five distinct districts designed with an efficient grid system, incorporating smart transportation networks, and a network of green and blue spaces. Expo Hills and Expo Fields offer low-density residential communities and healthy living models, respectively. Expo Business will cater to innovative and entrepreneurial businesses, while Expo Downtown will feature iconic structures like the Al Wasl dome and Terra Gardens. The Expo Forest will provide social amenities, educational spaces, and recreation areas, connecting Expo City to Expo Valley.
Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, emphasized how the new master plan enhances the strategic advantage for businesses in Dubai South by complementing the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport. The overall objective of the Expo City Dubai project is to create a dynamic and sustainable urban environment that fosters innovation, growth, and quality of life for its residents. Through careful planning and investment, Expo City is set to become a thriving hub for commerce, culture, and community in the heart of Dubai.
