The Arab League Council strongly condemned the sustained and barbaric Israeli aggression on Lebanon in a meeting held at the AL General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo. The Council called for an immediate halt to the aggression and warned of the serious consequences on the security and safety of the peoples of the region. Any incursion or occupation of Lebanese territory was considered an attack on Arab national security. Qatar’s Ambassador to the Arab League, Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari, represented the State of Qatar at the meeting, which was requested by Iraq and Lebanon.

The Council expressed full solidarity with Lebanon in the face of the aggression, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians, including children, women, elderly people, and paramedics. Thousands were critically wounded, and over one million people were forced out of their homes. Entire cities and villages were destroyed, and vast areas of agricultural land were burned in what the Council referred to as a flagrant war crime against humanity. The Council condemned these actions as violations of international covenants, treaties, and international humanitarian law.

In addition to condemning the Israeli aggression, the Arab League Council announced its support for mechanisms and efforts to hold Israel accountable for these crimes. Legal prosecution before international forums and courts was also advocated by the Council as a means of ensuring justice for the victims of the aggression. The Council’s strong stance on the issue reflected a commitment to upholding international law and protecting the rights of the Arab people, particularly in the face of external threats and violations of sovereignty.

The Council’s decision to condemn the Israeli aggression on Lebanon reflects a broader concern within the Arab League about regional stability and security. The Council’s assertion of solidarity with Lebanon and its condemnation of the violence as a war crime demonstrates a commitment to promoting peace and justice in the region. By calling for accountability and legal prosecution of Israel, the Council is sending a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated and that international law must be upheld to prevent further violations of human rights and international norms.
