The National Heart Centre in Muscat has made significant strides in the field of cardiac surgery and care, showcasing the advancements made in Oman’s healthcare sector. Since its establishment in 2015, the centre has performed over 8,000 heart surgeries for both children and adults, with a variety of procedures ranging from cardiac catheterisations to device implantations. Dr. Najib bin Zahran Al Rawahy, the centre’s Director, highlighted the various specialised clinics available at the facility, catering to different heart-related conditions and patient demographics. Additionally, the centre has achieved recognition for its scientific contributions, winning awards at both national and international levels.

With a focus on advancing cardiac care in Oman and the region, the National Heart Centre continues to expand its capabilities and expertise. Dr. Al Rawahy emphasized the centre’s commitment to training medical professionals and staying abreast of the latest therapeutic technologies, positioning it as a leading destination for advanced cardiac care. As part of its tenth-year anniversary celebrations, the centre launched the “Heart of the Nation” campaign to raise awareness about its role in providing healthcare services to the community.

The centre’s accomplishments extend beyond healthcare provision, with a strong emphasis on scientific research and knowledge dissemination. Numerous research papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals, and the centre has been actively involved in international conferences, showcasing surgical procedures to a global audience. This commitment to sharing knowledge and expertise has earned the National Heart Centre a reputation for excellence in the field of cardiac care.

One of the notable achievements of the centre is being the first in the Middle East to successfully close a heart hole, known as Atrial Septal Venosus Defect. This groundbreaking procedure in 2018 solidified the centre’s reputation for excellence in cardiac surgeries and interventions. Additionally, the centre has received accolades such as the Gold Award for the best project at the International Hospital Federation meeting and the Best Clinical Case Award from the Gulf Heart Conference 2019, further establishing its reputation on a global scale.

Despite achieving great success on the international stage, the National Heart Centre remains committed to serving the local community and providing high-quality healthcare to Omani citizens and residents. With a range of specialized clinics and a focus on both adult and pediatric cardiac care, the centre continues to make a significant impact in improving the heart health of individuals in the Sultanate. By prioritizing patient care, scientific research, and technological advancements, the National Heart Centre is at the forefront of cardiac healthcare in the region.
