Sohar Port and Freezone have recently signed a land lease agreement with Dan Foods Industries, a leading food manufacturing company, to establish a $7 million Food Manufacturing Plant. This plant will focus on repackaging essential bulk-imported food items and producing high-quality Meal Ready-to-Eat (MRE) solutions. The facility will be built on a 15,000 square meter industrial plot, with the aim of repackaging bulk-imported essential food items such as rice, milk powder, and sugar sourced from major global producers in India, New Zealand, and Canada. These products will then be reexported to markets across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries, strengthening regional trade and enhancing supply chain efficiencies. This project marks a new era for Sohar Freezone, signaling innovation and excellence in Oman’s food industry, while attracting international investments to drive economic growth and bolster Oman’s position in the regional market.

Dan Foods Industries is well-known for its expertise in food repackaging in countries like Saudi Arabia and Turkey. With an annual capacity of 5,000 tonnes per annum, the new facility in Oman is set to revolutionize Sohar’s logistics capabilities by streamlining the redistribution of repacked goods to key markets across the GCC, extending further to the African continent. The project is expected to create new job opportunities, empowering local talent and contributing to a more sustainable future. Mustafa Mohammed Abdalla Ahmed, the Managing Director of Dan Foods Industries, expressed his excitement over bringing the company’s expertise to Sohar Port and Freezone, highlighting the strategic location with access to key markets in the GCC and beyond. The investment in this project is seen as a significant milestone for Dan Foods Industries, showcasing their commitment to national economic development while expanding their global reach.

Mohammed Ali bin Salim Al Shezawi, Acting CEO of Sohar Freezone, emphasized the significance of this agreement in promoting a more diverse, innovative, and sustainable economy. The establishment of Oman’s first food repackaging facility is a testament to the efforts of the team to attract investment, drive growth, create opportunities, and enhance the nation’s role in the global food supply chain. The collaboration between Sohar Port and Freezone and Dan Foods Industries is expected to have a profound impact on the community, fostering a bright future for generations to come. Dan Food Industries’ presence is deemed a significant addition to the dynamic business landscape of Sohar Freezone, supporting its efforts to diversify economic activities and establish itself as a key logistics hub in the Middle East, aligned with Oman Vision 2040. These partnerships will further enhance Oman’s role in the global food supply chain, creating new economic opportunities and underscoring the pivotal role of Sohar Port and Freezone in the region.
