In recent news, it has been two years since the release of the highly anticipated period film Ponniyin Selvan -1 directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film was a huge hit in Tamil Nadu and among the Tamil diaspora, based on a novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy about the life of Emperor Rajaraja I of the Chola Empire. The film was also successful in its dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada across India.

Recently, actress Sobhita Dhulipala shared a group picture of the film’s team including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, and herself. In the caption, she humorously wrote, “Gonna tell my kids these were THE AVENGERS. 2 years of PS 1.” Fans flooded the comment section with expressions of excitement and appreciation for the movie.

At the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2024, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won the Best Actress in a Leading Role (Critics) award for her outstanding performance in Ponniyin Selvan 2. Her co-star Chiyaan Vikram also received the Best Actor (Tamil) award at the event. The sequel to the 2022 film, Ponniyin Selvan 2, has been directed by Mani Ratnam with narration by Kamal Haasan and music by AR Rahman.

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan film series has garnered widespread acclaim for its stellar performances, captivating storyline, and beautiful music. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Ponniyin Selvan 2 to see the continuation of the epic saga on the big screen. The success of the first film and the accolades received at prestigious award ceremonies like SIIMA 2024 highlight the talent and dedication of the cast and crew involved in bringing this historical masterpiece to life.

Overall, Ponniyin Selvan -1 remains a standout film in Indian cinema, blending historical accuracy with entertainment value to create a cinematic experience that resonates with audiences across different regions. The star-studded cast, including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, and Sobhita Dhulipala, has delivered stellar performances that have been recognized through awards and accolades. As the release of Ponniyin Selvan 2 approaches, fans can look forward to another cinematic marvel that continues the legacy of this epic film series. Mani Ratnam’s vision and storytelling have captivated viewers, and the success of the Ponniyin Selvan films is a testament to the enduring appeal of historical dramas in Indian cinema.
