Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) 2024 is underway in Doha, Qatar, from September 28 to October 5. This week-long event aims to impact a large number of community members through over 400 events and initiatives planned by over 200 organizers, including members of the public, government and non-government organizations, and businesses. Organized by Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and several other entities, QSW 2024 seeks to create a movement for positive change in the country.

An important feature of QSW 2024 is the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change (QNDCC), which will be held for the first time as part of the week’s activities. The QNDCC, scheduled for October 1 and 2, aims to address climate change and promote sustainable development. It will provide an open forum for exploring new innovations and opportunities to tackle climate change. According to Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of Earthna, the mission of QSW is to encourage collective efforts to enhance awareness and take action to address pressing sustainability challenges and opportunities for future generations.

The strategic partners of QSW 2024, including the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Kahramaa’s Tarsheed, and other prominent organizations, are actively involved in the week-long event. Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada, Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized the importance of QSW and QNDCC in reaching a large number of people. He stated that QNDCC will play a crucial role in facilitating discussions between national institutions to identify further steps and initiatives to address climate challenges.

Additionally, the Ministry of Sports and Youth will be hosting over 40 activities during QSW to raise awareness and reinforce the role of youth in creating positive change in the environment and sustainability. Mohammed Abdulla Jassim Al Muhannadi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Sports and Youth, highlighted the ministry’s commitment to empowering youth to contribute to environmental sustainability. QSW 2024 will also feature workshops on various sustainability topics, including water management, circular economy, Islamic environmental values, and energy system modeling, among others.

The ninth edition of QSW is set to be a platform for promoting dialogue, awareness, and action on sustainability issues in Qatar. With a wide range of events and initiatives planned throughout the week, QSW 2024 aims to engage stakeholders from all sectors of society, including government, businesses, and the public. By fostering collaboration and innovative solutions to address climate change and promote sustainable development, QSW is at the forefront of driving positive change in Qatar’s sustainability landscape.

In conclusion, Qatar Sustainability Week 2024 is a significant initiative that showcases the country’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. With a diverse range of events and activities planned, this year’s QSW aims to create a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and action on pressing sustainability challenges. By bringing together key stakeholders and promoting collective efforts towards a more sustainable future, QSW 2024 is a vital step towards building a resilient and promising future for Qatar and its future generations.
