Saudi Arabia, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), has signed a joint cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to support the water and sanitation sector in Kassala and Gedaref states in Sudan. The agreement, signed by Dr. Hana Omar of KSRelief and Abdullah Al-Dardari of UNDP, aims to benefit over 833,520 individuals directly and 5 million individuals indirectly, with a total value of $3.5 million. This initiative will involve the construction and installation of solar energy systems, expansion of distribution points at water stations, rehabilitation and installation of solar energy systems for water stations, establishment of water user associations, distribution of water collection and storage containers, water treatment tablets, waste collection equipment, and hygiene supplies to needy families.

Through this agreement, Saudi Arabia is working to provide sustainable solutions for the environment, improve the quality of life, and reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics in needy countries around the world. The agreement will also support educational and cultural publications on the importance of personal hygiene for 10,000 people, provide hand-washing tools to schools and clubs, and improve access to clean water for vulnerable communities. The signing ceremony, attended by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah and Achim Steiner, was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

By constructing and installing solar energy systems for water stations and distributing water treatment tablets, this agreement aims to ensure that communities have access to clean and safe drinking water. Additionally, the establishment of water user associations will help in managing and maintaining water resources effectively. The distribution of water collection and storage containers, waste collection equipment, and hygiene supplies will further improve sanitation practices and help prevent the spread of diseases in vulnerable communities.

This partnership between Saudi Arabia and UNDP demonstrates a commitment to humanitarian and relief efforts that aim to alleviate the suffering of those in need. By focusing on improving the water and sanitation sector in Sudan, this agreement will have a significant impact on the lives of millions of individuals. Through sustainable solutions and educational initiatives, this project will not only provide immediate relief but also contribute to the long-term well-being of communities in Kassala and Gedaref states.

The support provided by Saudi Arabia through this agreement reflects the country’s dedication to serving humanity and promoting sustainable development. By working in collaboration with UNDP, Saudi Arabia is able to leverage its resources and expertise to address pressing humanitarian needs in disadvantaged communities. Through projects like this, Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its commitment to global humanitarian efforts and the importance of working together to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

In conclusion, the joint cooperation agreement between Saudi Arabia and UNDP to support the water and sanitation sector in Sudan is a significant step towards improving the quality of life for millions of individuals. By focusing on sustainable solutions, educational initiatives, and community engagement, this agreement will help to enhance access to clean water, improve sanitation practices, and reduce the spread of diseases in vulnerable communities. Through projects like this, Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its commitment to humanitarian efforts and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
