The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has recently refuted allegations surrounding a UAE-funded field hospital in Chad, claiming that the facility is being misused. The hospital, located in Amdjarass, was accused of being utilized for purposes other than humanitarian work in a news report. The ERC firmly denied these claims, calling them false and baseless. Additionally, the organization expressed concern that such allegations could undermine their humanitarian efforts and cause unnecessary politicization.

The ERC emphasized that there is no evidence to support the accusations made against the field hospital and went on to reject claims that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) had been denied access to the facility. The ERC stated that they will collaborate with the IFRC to determine how access to the hospital area could have been restricted, as local authorities in the host country are responsible for granting entry.

Established in July 2023, the Amdjarass facility has been providing medical assistance to vulnerable populations, including Sudanese refugees and Chadian residents. The hospital has treated thousands of individuals and conducted numerous surgeries since its inception. The ERC reiterated its commitment to focusing on providing essential medical care to those in need, despite the unfounded allegations that have been made against the organization.

The ERC condemned the reckless and harmful nature of the allegations, asserting that they pose a threat to the safety of humanitarian personnel and hinder the delivery of vital aid to those in need. In addition to the Amdjarass facility, the ERC has also established a field hospital in Abéché, where thousands of patients have received treatment. The organization highlighted that these UAE-funded field hospitals serve as critical lifelines for civilians in need, regardless of nationality, age, gender, or political affiliation.

It is important to note that the ERC’s humanitarian efforts are crucial in providing medical care to vulnerable populations in Chad, including Sudanese refugees who have fled conflict in their home country. The organization’s commitment to supporting those in need remains unwavering, despite the challenges and false accusations they may face. By refuting these baseless claims and continuing to provide essential medical services, the ERC plays a vital role in alleviating suffering and promoting health and well-being in the region.
