Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have recently signed a significant agreement worth USD 7 million to support Palestine Refugees in Syria. The aim of this partnership is to improve the living conditions of Palestinian Refugees in Syria by providing essential services such as education, healthcare, and cash assistance. This funding is part of Qatar’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and is aligned with UNRWA’s 2024 Emergency Appeal. By enhancing the resilience and well-being of this vulnerable population, the partnership seeks to ensure access to vital services and meet basic needs.

The agreement was signed during the United Nations General Assembly by Sultan bin Ahmed Al Aseeri, Acting Director General of QFFD, and Greta Gunnarsdottir, Director of UNRWA’s Representative Office in New York, in the presence of HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater. The signing reaffirmed the strong partnership between the State of Qatar and the Agency. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini expressed his gratitude to QFFD for its continuous support and emphasized the crucial role of Arab partners in addressing humanitarian crises and supporting Palestinian Refugees. He highlighted the importance of ongoing financial support in providing life-saving assistance to Palestinian refugees living in extremely difficult conditions in the Middle East.

In his remarks, Al Aseeri emphasized Qatar’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts and the significance of collaboration in such endeavors. He highlighted Qatar’s leading role in supporting Palestinian refugees worldwide and mentioned that the USD 7 million pledge will enable UNRWA to continue delivering aid to Palestinian refugees. Al Aseeri underlined QFFD’s dedication to promoting shared values that uphold the right to self-determination by providing sustainable support to communities and countries in need. The long-standing partnership between QFFD and UNRWA has been instrumental in addressing the immediate and future needs of Palestine Refugees, and this new agreement will further strengthen their joint efforts to provide assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria.

The funding allocated as part of this agreement will support critical services for Palestine Refugees in Syria, including education, healthcare, and cash assistance. This assistance is vital for a population facing the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict in the region. By providing access to essential services and meeting basic needs, the partnership between QFFD and UNRWA aims to improve the resilience and well-being of Palestinian Refugees in Syria. The agreement signed during the United Nations General Assembly demonstrates the commitment of Qatar to humanitarian assistance and supporting vulnerable populations in need.

The continuous support of QFFD to UNRWA is crucial in providing life-saving assistance to Palestinian Refugees in the Middle East. By partnering with organizations like UNRWA, QFFD is able to contribute to addressing humanitarian crises and supporting those in need. The USD 7 million pledge highlights Qatar’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts and its role in providing sustainable support to communities and countries facing challenges. This funding will enable UNRWA to continue its vital work of delivering aid and support to Palestinian refugees, particularly those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria. The agreement between QFFD and UNRWA further strengthens their collaboration in addressing the immediate and long-term needs of Palestine Refugees.
