Abu Dhabi real estate major, Aldar, is making significant strides by investing Dh1.5 billion to introduce iconic hotel brands to the emirate for the first time. This move is in response to the increasing demand for luxury hospitality experiences in Abu Dhabi, reflecting the rapid growth of the leisure and tourism sector in the region.
As part of this strategic initiative, Aldar has partnered with Hilton to operate the Eastern Mangroves hotel under the Waldorf Astoria brand. Additionally, Yas Plaza and the desert resort formerly known as Tilal Liwa will both be operated under IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Vignette Collection brand. This partnership will make Yas Plaza the largest Vignette Collection resort in the world.
Abu Dhabi has experienced a surge in hotel guests, with a 27% increase in 2023 compared to the previous year, including a 54% increase in international guest arrivals. This growth is in line with the government’s strategy to boost visitor numbers to 39.3 million by 2030. The success can be attributed to the opening of the new terminal at Zayed International Airport and the popularity of attractions in Saadiyat Cultural District and Yas Island.
Aldar’s Group CEO, Talal Al Dhiyebi, expressed excitement about enhancing the hotel portfolio to meet the growing demand in the luxury segment. The partnership with world-class hospitality brands will provide customers in Abu Dhabi with unique and premium experiences they have not had access to before.
Aldar’s extensive plans include revamping and rebranding several properties, such as Yas Plaza and the Eastern Mangroves hotel. The expansion and improvements will elevate these properties to luxury resort-style establishments, offering guests a world-class experience in Abu Dhabi’s vibrant tourism landscape.
Moreover, Nurai Island is undergoing a major refurbishment and expansion to position itself as Abu Dhabi’s ultimate ultra-luxury hospitality destination. With upgraded facilities and a larger footprint, Nurai Island will cater to discerning travelers seeking a top-tier experience.
In line with their commitment to enhancing guest experiences, Aldar is also renovating their flagship properties in Ras Al Khaimah, Rixos Bab Al Bahr, and DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island. The phased renovations will upgrade guest rooms and improve public spaces and entertainment offerings to align with Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority’s growth plan.
Overall, Aldar’s investments in their hospitality portfolio reflect their dedication to transformational growth. By introducing iconic hotel brands and upgrading existing properties, Aldar is solidifying its presence in the luxury hospitality segment and contributing to Abu Dhabi’s status as a premier international leisure and tourism destination.
