The Qatari chess team recently achieved success at the 45th edition of the FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. The team, consisting of five players, secured the silver medal in Category E. This accomplishment was highlighted by Hamad Al Kuwari earning the title of Candidate Master (CM). India, on the other hand, made history by winning both the men’s and women’s team championships, along with four individual gold medals. The USA and Uzbekistan took silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s event, while Kazakhstan and the USA claimed silver and bronze in the women’s event.

During the FIDE Chess Olympiad, Mohammed Al Mudahka, President of the Qatar Chess Federation, participated in the General Assembly meetings of the International Chess Federation. Various national administrative figures, including Ju Shen and Hamad Al Tamimi, also attended the event. Additionally, international arbiter Hussein Al Haddad and federation referee Sara Al Mahandi were involved in officiating the Olympiad. Al Mudahka expressed satisfaction with the Qatari team’s performance and commended the players for their efforts. He emphasized that winning the silver medal would enhance the players’ rankings and announced that the federation would continue to support and train the national team players for future events.

Looking ahead, the Qatari teams are preparing to compete in the upcoming Arab Age Group Championship, scheduled to take place in Tunisia at the end of October. This tournament presents an opportunity for the players to showcase their skills and compete against other top chess players from the region. The Qatari Chess Federation remains committed to developing and nurturing the talents of its players, with the goal of achieving success in domestic and international competitions. The silver medal achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of the team members, who have trained tirelessly to reach this level of performance. This success not only boosts the morale of the players but also elevates the stature of Qatar in the global chess community. As the players continue to participate in prestigious tournaments and gain valuable experience, they will be well-equipped to represent Qatar on the international stage and compete against some of the best chess players in the world.
