In Doha, Qatar, the Occupational Safety and Health Department of the Ministry of Labour has recently reported over 350 violations of the midday outdoor work ban during the summer months. This comes as a result of a series of inspection campaigns conducted to ensure compliance with the regulations regarding outdoor work hours from June 1 to September 15. The Ministry of Labour has emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations in order to protect workers from the dangerous effects of heat stress during the hot summer months.

Every year, the Ministry of Labour in Qatar announces a ban on working in open spaces during the day time hours of 10am to 3:30pm to mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat exposure. This ban is enforced as per the Ministerial Resolution No. 17 of 2021, which outlines the necessary precautions that employers must take to protect their workers from heat-related illnesses and injuries. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in serious consequences, as evidenced by the high number of violations recorded during the recent inspection campaign.

The enforcement of the summer ban on midday outdoor work is essential to ensure the health and safety of workers in Qatar, particularly during the scorching summer months when temperatures can reach unbearable levels. Heat stress can have serious health implications, including heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration, all of which can be life-threatening if not properly managed. By implementing strict regulations and conducting regular inspections, the Ministry of Labour aims to prevent these types of incidents and protect the well-being of workers across the country.

Employers in Qatar are required to provide suitable working conditions for their employees, especially during the summer months when the risk of heat-related illnesses is at its peak. This includes providing access to shade, drinking water, and rest breaks to allow workers to cool down and hydrate regularly. Additionally, employers must ensure that workers are provided with appropriate personal protective equipment, such as hats, sunglasses, and lightweight clothing, to reduce the risk of heat stress while working outdoors.

The Ministry of Labour in Qatar is committed to upholding the rights of workers and ensuring their safety and well-being in the workplace. By enforcing strict regulations regarding midday outdoor work during the summer months, the Ministry aims to prevent heat-related illnesses and injuries and create a safer working environment for all employees. Employers are urged to comply with these regulations and take the necessary precautions to protect their workers from the dangers of heat stress, in order to avoid penalties and ensure the health and safety of their workforce.

In conclusion, the recent findings of over 350 violations of the midday outdoor work ban in Qatar serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to regulations to protect workers from heat-related illnesses and injuries. By implementing and enforcing strict rules regarding outdoor work hours during the summer, the Ministry of Labour is taking proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of employees across the country. Employers must prioritize the health and safety of their workers by providing a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with the regulations outlined by the Ministry of Labour to prevent heat stress and keep workers safe during the hot summer months.
