Residents in Muharraq are increasingly concerned about the high number of businesses operating illegally around the clock. Despite a 97 percent approval rate for 24-hour operation licenses, 52 establishments are still operating without proper licensing, making up 68 percent of such businesses in the area. Data from the Muharraq Police Directorate shows that out of the 81 shops open 24 hours a day, only 26 are properly licensed, leaving 55 businesses in violation of the law. These non-compliant operations include restaurants, convenience stores, cafés, a laundry, and a vape shop, which pose risks to public safety and regulatory compliance.

The high approval rate of 97 percent for round-the-clock operation licenses raises questions about the enforcement of licensing regulations. However, the average response time for applications has improved significantly from three working days to just four hours. The authorities expressed the need to simplify the licensing process for businesses wanting to operate continuously and emphasized the importance of identifying the authorities responsible for enforcing compliance and taking legal action against violators. Concerns were also raised about some establishments remaining open for business or serving as informal gathering spots for the owner’s acquaintances.

During a meeting held by the Muharraq Municipal Council, representatives from the Muharraq Police Directorate, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the municipal executive body highlighted the need for a unified law across the kingdom to standardize and simplify licensing procedures. Council Chairman Abdulaziz Al Naar emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach that addresses all aspects of business operations, ensuring effective coordination among the relevant authorities within a collaborative framework. The goal is to streamline the licensing process and ensure that all businesses comply with the law.

The Muharraq Police Directorate has approved 97 percent of applications for round-the-clock operation, but there is still a significant number of businesses operating illegally. The authorities are working to improve enforcement and ensure that all businesses follow the proper procedures for obtaining licenses. The meeting also focused on the importance of public safety and regulatory compliance, as unlicensed establishments pose risks to both customers and the community. It is crucial for all businesses to operate within the boundaries of the law to maintain a safe and regulated environment for residents.

Efforts are being made to address the issue of unlicensed businesses operating around the clock in Muharraq. The authorities are working together to simplify the licensing process and ensure that all businesses comply with regulations. It is essential for the relevant authorities to enforce compliance and take legal action against violators to maintain public safety and regulatory standards. By streamlining the licensing procedures and improving coordination among the authorities, the goal is to create a unified approach that benefits both businesses and the community as a whole. Residents can rest assured that steps are being taken to address the issue and ensure a safer and regulated environment for all.
