The Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City is set for a significant expansion following the approval of its master plan by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The expansion plan includes increasing the exhibition space from 58,000 sqm to 180,000 sqm, as well as doubling the number of annual events from 300 to 600.
By 2031, the venue is expected to become the largest indoor exhibition and events destination in the region, with a total built-up area exceeding 1 million sqm. The expansion will also see the addition of an external exhibition plaza covering 22,000 sqm, retail and F&B space spread over 7,000 sqm, and 8,000 sqm of office area. The centre will stretch 1.2km in length and accommodate up to 65,000 visitors daily.
To facilitate the influx of visitors, a multi-storey parking facility with over 5,000 spaces will provide direct access to the venue. Additionally, a 300-key hotel spanning over 35,000 sqm will be incorporated into the centre. The economic impact of this expanded hub is projected to range between Dh18 billion to Dh54 billion by 2033, aligning with the goals set forth in the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
The approval of the master plan for the Dubai Exhibition Centre’s expansion marks a significant milestone in the city’s development as a global hub for exhibitions and events. With the increase in exhibition space and capacity, the venue is poised to attract a greater number of events and visitors, bolstering Dubai’s position as a leading destination for business and tourism.
The incorporation of retail, F&B, and office spaces within the expanded centre demonstrates a holistic approach to creating a vibrant and dynamic hub for various activities. The addition of a hotel further enhances the venue’s offerings, catering to the accommodation needs of attendees and exhibitors. The comprehensive design of the expansion reflects Dubai’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for both local and international audiences.
The strategic location of the Dubai Exhibition Centre within Expo City, combined with the planned amenities and infrastructure, positions it as a key player in driving economic growth and development in the region. The expansion project not only enhances the city’s capabilities in hosting major events but also contributes significantly to its economic prosperity and competitiveness on the global stage.
As the expansion progresses and the Dubai Exhibition Centre evolves into a premier destination for exhibitions and events, the city’s stature as a dynamic business and leisure hub continues to grow. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and excellence, Dubai is well-positioned to maintain its leading role in the regional and international events industry, driving growth and prosperity for years to come.
