India’s men’s and women’s chess teams have made the country proud by clinching gold medals in both categories at the Fide Chess Olympiad. This remarkable performance was celebrated by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The men’s team, consisting of D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, and Pentala Harikrishna, emerged victorious over Slovenia to secure the gold medal. On the other hand, the women’s team, featuring Harika Dronavalli, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agarwal, and Tania Sachdev, defeated Azerbaijan to clinch gold. This victory marks a historic moment for Indian chess as it is the first time both teams have won gold medals in the Fide Chess Olympiad.

Sachin Tendulkar took to social media to congratulate the Indian team for their exceptional performance at the Fide Chess Olympiad. He praised both the men’s and women’s teams for securing the first spot in their respective events, highlighting the significance of India’s double victory in the competition. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also extended her wishes to the Indian players, emphasizing that the entire country is proud of their achievements. She commended the teams for creating history by winning gold medals in both the open and women’s categories for the first time in the Chess Olympiad.

The men’s team showcased outstanding gameplay, with victories from Gukesh and Erigaisi leading them to a 2-0 lead over Slovenia. Praggnanandhaa’s subsequent triumph, along with a draw from Vidit, secured the gold medal for India with a comprehensive 3.5-0.5 victory. Similarly, the women’s team put up a stellar performance by defeating Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5, with wins from Harika, Divya, and Vantika contributing to their victory. This victory marks an improvement from their bronze medal at the previous Chennai Olympiad in 2022, showcasing the team’s growth and success in international chess competitions.

India’s success at the Fide Chess Olympiad marks a significant milestone in the country’s chess history. The double gold medal victory in both the men’s and women’s events is a testament to the talent and determination of Indian chess players. This victory also reflects the growing prominence of India in the international chess community and sets a new standard for excellence in the sport. With previous best performances including two bronze medals in 2014 and 2022, India’s recent success at the Chess Olympiad reinforces its position as a powerhouse in the world of chess, inspiring a new generation of chess players in the country.

In conclusion, India’s triumph at the Fide Chess Olympiad is a momentous occasion that highlights the country’s prowess in international chess competitions.
