The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently announced an increase in the maximum speed limit on parts of Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street, which will be effective from September 30. The new speed limits will vary in different areas, with the maximum speed limit on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street being raised to 100 km/h between Dubai Al Ain Road and Academic City Roundabout, and 90 km/h between Academic City Roundabout and Al Khawaneej Street. Similarly, the speed limit on Al Amardi Street will be standardised to 90 km/h between Al Khawaneej Street and Emirates Road.

The decision to adjust and standardize the speed limits on these streets was made in coordination with the Dubai Police General Headquarters. Traffic signs and road markings in these areas will be replaced to reflect the new maximum speed limit. The RTA aims to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety on both streets, which have recently undergone development and expansion, resulting in an increase in the number of lanes and improvements to intersections.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street has seen several development projects, including the development of an overpass at Dubai Al Ain Road. Ongoing work on the street is expected to be completed by 2030, facilitating the application of the 100 km/h maximum speed limit along the entire street. Similarly, Al Amardi Street has been expanded, service roads have been constructed, and the roundabout with Al Khawaneej Street has been transformed into a signal-controlled intersection, all contributing to improved traffic flow and safety in the area.

The RTA’s decision to increase the speed limits is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the road infrastructure in Dubai and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. The coordination with Dubai Police General Headquarters and the standardization of speed limits aim to create a safer and more efficient road network for residents and commuters. The improvements to Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street are a testament to Dubai’s commitment to developing its infrastructure in line with the city’s rapid growth and expansion.

As the developments in Dubai continue, it is essential for authorities to adapt and adjust the road infrastructure to accommodate the increasing traffic demands. By increasing the speed limits on key streets like Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, the RTA is taking proactive steps to address the evolving needs of the city’s residents and visitors. These changes will not only improve traffic flow but also enhance road safety, ultimately creating a more efficient and sustainable transportation system in Dubai.

In conclusion, the increase in speed limits on Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street is a positive step towards improving traffic efficiency and road safety in Dubai. The ongoing development projects in these areas reflect the city’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure to meet the growing demands of its residents and visitors. By standardizing speed limits and coordinating with the relevant authorities, the RTA is taking essential measures to create a safer and more efficient road network for all road users in the city.
