Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman, had a series of productive meetings during his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. One of the key meetings was with Dr. Rashad Al Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council in the Republic of Yemen. During this meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining the historical, cordial relations between Oman and Yemen. They also expressed their support for efforts to achieve security and stability in Yemen, with the hope of reaching a consensual political solution that upholds Yemen’s independence and sovereignty.
Another important meeting was with Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations and the need to activate the outcomes of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee. They also highlighted the importance of continuing cooperation in various vital fields to bring mutual benefits. Additionally, they discussed regional and international issues of common concern, emphasizing the importance of coordination and consultation in international forums to support Arab and Islamic issues and promote international peace and security.
Sayyid Badr also met with Espen Barth Eide, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, environment protection, sustainable development, and food, medicine, and water security. They agreed on the importance of close coordination within the framework of the growing bilateral relations between Oman and Norway. Both sides also emphasized the need to support multilateral international dialogue and cooperation to find peaceful solutions to regional and global conflicts, in line with the principles and values of the United Nations Charter.
During his meeting with Dr. Mohamed Osman Maliki, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore, Sayyid Badr reaffirmed their commitment to follow up on the outcomes of the historic visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said to Singapore. They expressed their desire to continue the strategic dialogue between the two countries and cooperate in various fields, including the digital economy, innovation, energy, education, and advanced technology. The ministers also highlighted the importance of promoting dialogue, justice, and respect to resolve differences peacefully and support the role of diplomacy in achieving understanding.
Lastly, Sayyid Badr met with Battsetseg Batmunkh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation to enhance friendship and trade relations, as well as promote investment opportunities, trade, and tourism exchange between the two countries. In the context of the United Nations General Assembly session, the two ministers exchanged views and consultations on a variety of topics of common interest and discussed ways to collaborate on international issues. Overall, Sayyid Badr’s meetings during the UNGA 79 underscored Oman’s commitment to fostering strong bilateral and international relations based on cooperation, dialogue, and mutual respect.
