Thirdy Ravena, a Filipino basketball star, gained popularity after helping the Mighty Sports team win the Dubai International Basketball Championship before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The Filipino community in Dubai showed immense support for Ravena during the tournament, creating a memorable experience for him. Fast forward four years, Ravena has now become the face of Dubai Basketball, a professional team that recently made its debut in the ABA League with a victory over Red Star Belgrade. The team includes elite players from Europe and a former NBA star, Davis Bertans, from Latvia, but it is Ravena who is currently in the spotlight, leading the team and building on the Filipino love for basketball in Dubai.

Born into a family of successful athletes, Ravena feels privileged to be part of Dubai’s entry into European basketball. In an interview, the 27-year-old shared his excitement about his goals, the advantages of having a sports-oriented family, and his eagerness to explore Dubai. Ravena expressed his enthusiasm for being part of something new and ambitious in Dubai, highlighting the significance of making history with the team’s debut in a major European championship. He also acknowledged the responsibility of representing not only the Filipino community but also the broader Asian and Dubai-based audiences through Dubai Basketball.

With the support of his family, including his elite athlete father and volleyball player mother, Ravena has navigated the challenges of being in the sports industry. Having faced doubts and comparisons due to his brother’s success in basketball, Ravena emphasizes the importance of self-belief and perseverance. He encourages aspiring athletes to focus on their own capabilities and not be deterred by external opinions. Ravena’s journey serves as an inspiration to individuals from all backgrounds, demonstrating the value of hard work and determination in achieving success.

As part of Dubai Basketball, Ravena anticipates a strong response from the Filipino community in Dubai during the team’s matches at the Coca-Cola Arena. He emphasizes the significance of representing a diverse audience in the city and hopes to engage fans from all nationalities through the sport. Beyond basketball, Ravena looks forward to exploring Dubai’s cultural and recreational offerings, such as trying different cuisines and engaging in activities like skydiving in the city. With family ties in Abu Dhabi, Ravena also plans to spend time with relatives during his stays in the UAE, balancing his professional commitments with personal connections.

Ravena’s story resonates with individuals pursuing their dreams, showcasing the power of determination and resilience in overcoming challenges. His journey from facing doubts and limitations to achieving success with Dubai Basketball serves as a reminder to believe in oneself and persevere in the face of adversity. Ravena’s advice to never listen to detractors but instead focus on personal goals and aspirations resonates with aspiring athletes and individuals striving to fulfill their ambitions. As Ravena continues to make a mark in Dubai’s basketball scene, his story inspires a wide range of audiences, reflecting the universal values of hard work, self-belief, and dedication.
