Haddad Maia mounts comeback to defeat Kasatkina in Korea Open final

Beatriz Haddad Maia from Brazil emerged victorious in the women’s singles final match against Daria Kasatkina from Russia at the Korea Open on September 22, 2024. Despite losing the opening set in just 26 minutes, Haddad Maia made a stunning comeback to claim her fourth career title with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. This win marked her first title since June 2022 as she displayed a gutsy performance in Seoul. On the other hand, top seed Kasatkina has now lost four out of five finals this year, facing disappointment once again.

The intense final match saw neither player dropping a set on their way to the decider. However, both athletes had to play two matches on Saturday due to heavy rain that disrupted the schedule. In the quarter-final, Kasatkina emerged victorious after Emma Raducanu retired injured after the first set.
