Tamkeen, the Research and Innovation Lab in Muscat, has launched a programme aimed at enhancing the role of research and innovation in domestic development. The programme, scheduled to run until October 3, 2024, will focus on evaluating the current performance of Oman’s research and innovation system. It will also work towards identifying key challenges and proposing solutions to overcome them. This initiative is aligned with Oman Vision 2040, which envisions Oman as one of the top twenty countries in the Global Innovation Index.

The goal of the programme is to promote collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve common objectives and foster integration within the national research and innovation ecosystem. Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, the Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, highlighted the importance of establishing a national system in Oman that plays a pivotal role in driving economic and social development. By leveraging knowledge, research, and innovation, Oman aims to achieve comprehensive and sustainable national progress.

The Global Innovation Index serves as a crucial benchmark for decision-makers looking to gauge their country’s economic competitiveness in comparison to global counterparts. By striving to improve its ranking on this index, Oman is demonstrating its commitment to advancing its research and innovation capabilities. The key focus of the programme will be on developing strategies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the national research and innovation system.

Through this initiative, Oman is seeking to address the challenges hindering its research and innovation landscape while exploring innovative solutions to propel its national development agenda forward. By fostering a culture of innovation and research excellence, the country hopes to position itself as a leading player in the global innovation ecosystem. Collaboration and partnerships with key stakeholders will be crucial in driving this transformative agenda.

The programme underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing a conducive environment for research and innovation to thrive in Oman. By investing in technology, supporting research initiatives, and fostering a culture of creativity and entrepreneurship, the country aims to create a vibrant ecosystem that attracts top talent and fosters groundbreaking discoveries. This concerted effort towards building a strong research and innovation foundation will be pivotal in driving Oman’s economic growth and enhancing its global competitiveness.

In conclusion, the launch of the programme by Tamkeen, the Research and Innovation Lab, marks a significant step towards elevating Oman’s research and innovation landscape. By focusing on enhancing the national research and innovation system, addressing key challenges, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, Oman is positioning itself for long-term success. With a clear vision outlined in Oman Vision 2040 and a commitment to leveraging knowledge and innovation, the Sultanate is poised to make significant strides towards becoming a global leader in research and innovation.
