Qatar is setting an example for the world in terms of public cleanliness, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani emphasized. He highlighted the country’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness at international and regional levels. Al Karani mentioned that the Public Services Affairs Sector is dedicated to providing top-notch public cleanliness services following the highest international standards. The Ministry of Municipality is actively involved in implementing policies and strategies to uphold public cleanliness and promote waste recycling through various legislations, strategic projects, digital transformation initiatives, and national campaigns.
One significant legislation that has boosted public cleanliness efforts is Law No. 6 of 2023, which amended provisions of the Cleanliness Law No. 18 of 2017. These laws aim to enhance cleaning practices in cities and vital areas across Qatar. The country’s dedication to preserving the environment, ensuring safety, and achieving sustainable development can be seen through these legislative efforts. Additionally, the integrated national program for waste sorting at source has been launched to support the Ministry’s sustainable strategic plan. This program involves distributing source sorting containers to residential areas on a periodic basis to encourage waste segregation at the household level.
Director of the General Cleaning Department, Muqbel Madhour Al Shammari, shared insights into Qatar’s commitment to public cleanliness and waste management. He highlighted the sector’s importance within the third national development strategy, a crucial step towards Qatar National Vision 2030. Al Shammari announced plans for a comprehensive beach cleaning campaign to maintain the country’s aesthetic appeal and preserve its beaches and islands. The General Cleaning Department will deploy field teams equipped with advanced tools and equipment to ensure thorough cleaning of key coastal areas across Qatar.
The General Cleaning Department places great emphasis on providing high-quality public cleaning services with maximum efficiency. Al Shammari noted the department’s successful handling of cleanliness operations during significant events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Qatar’s cities set a benchmark for arrangement, organization, and cleanliness. This success is attributed to the state’s support and the diligent efforts of those involved in the public services sector at the ministry. By prioritizing cleanliness and waste management, Qatar aims to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment for its residents and visitors.
In celebration of World Cleanup Day, Qatar is gearing up for a major beach cleaning initiative to maintain the pristine appearance of its coastal areas. The upcoming campaign underscores the nation’s commitment to upholding cleanliness standards and promoting environmental responsibility. Through continuous efforts to enhance waste management practices, Qatar is striving to become a shining example of sustainable development and environmental stewardship on the global stage. The Ministry of Municipality and other relevant authorities are working collaboratively to implement innovative solutions and policies that align with international best practices and contribute to the country’s overall progress in the field of public cleanliness.
