The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) has recently announced its new Order of Merit structure for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, with a special focus on Mixed and Junior Opens. The new format introduces a one hundred per cent Mixed Split, allowing golfers of all genders to compete for the same prizes in Open events. Additionally, the EGF has identified four prestigious ‘Majors’ within the Men’s and Ladies’ Divisions, ensuring these tournaments receive top event invitations.

This summer, the EGF and UAE golf clubs have been working diligently to expand their open calendars and formats. The EGF has now released 20 Men’s and Ladies’ Mixed Open Events and 12 Junior Open Events. The EGF Order of Merit will commence on October 15th with the Tommy Fleetwood International Series presented by DP World, in collaboration with the American Junior Golf Association (AGJA) and EGF, focusing on the Junior Order of Merit.

The EGF’s new structure includes a 100% Mixed Split where top golfers, irrespective of gender, compete for the same prize in Open events. The EGF has also identified four ‘Majors’ for the Men’s and Ladies’ Divisions, ensuring they receive premier event invitations. The Men’s and Ladies’ Divisions will kick off with the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club Open Amateur on October 19th – 20th, with a field allocation of 80/20, where at least 20% of the field is reserved for female participants.

For eligibility for the EGF Order of Meri, players must be citizens and/or residents of the UAE with a valid EGF handicap. Points will be allocated based on the EGF Order of Merit points table available on their website. Points will be accumulated throughout the season for each player within their respective division, with players needing to participate in a minimum of 50% of events in a category to qualify for the season-ending Order of Merit Championship.

In conclusion, the EGF’s new Order of Merit structure for the 2024-2025 season emphasizes the importance of Mixed and Junior Opens. With a one hundred per cent Mixed Split and designated ‘Majors’ for elite tournaments within the Men’s and Ladies’ Divisions, the EGF is dedicated to promoting gender diversity and enhancing opportunities for junior golfers. Players in the UAE can look forward to an exciting season ahead, with a unique format that encourages inclusivity and competition among top golfers. Visit the EGF website for more information on the Order of Merit and upcoming events.
