The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has launched a series of foresight reports to address rapid developments in the energy sector efficiently. These reports aim to systematically analyze possible future scenarios such as technological advancements, policy shifts, and market dynamics that may impact the energy sector. By leveraging this foresight information, the DoE can foster innovation, enhance efficiency, and sustainability, guiding the department toward achieving long-term goals while mitigating risks and seizing new opportunities.

The first report focuses on the future potential of the ammonia economy in hydrogen energy production, global trade, and the transition to sustainable ammonia technologies. It outlines goals and steps needed to achieve future trends for developing the ammonia economy. The second report explores graphene-based technologies in water-related applications such as desalination and purification, providing a framework for identifying future trends to enhance water sustainability. The third report assesses the strategic feasibility of space solar power technology and its alignment with the UAE’s renewable energy goals, aiming to achieve a sustainable future free from carbon emissions. The fourth report highlights the advancement of smart grid technologies in the UAE, their connection to the artificial intelligence revolution, and their applications in energy management.

Dr. Shamma Al Malik, Director of Strategy Development at the DoE, emphasized the importance of the reports in inspiring forward-looking visions and addressing challenges in energy transition, sustainability, water security, and energy efficiency technologies. The reports aim to build a knowledge base and extract precise information to ensure readiness to face future challenges. The issuance of these reports reaffirms the DoE’s commitment to achieving an effective transformation in the energy sector by promoting clean and renewable energy and anticipating future industry needs. By leveraging capabilities, collaborating with partners and stakeholders, and delivering advanced solutions, the DoE aims to drive sustainable growth and uphold Abu Dhabi’s leadership position in the global energy transition journey.
