Al Ahli Saudi FC started their AFC Champions League Elite League Stage campaign on a high note with a 1-0 victory over Persepolis FC of Iran. The lone goal came early in the match when Frank Kessie capitalized on a precise pass from Riyad Mahrez and unleashed a powerful shot past the Persepolis goalkeeper. Both teams had their opportunities throughout the game, but Al Ahli’s defense held strong to secure the win.

As the match progressed, Persepolis started to find their rhythm, with players like Soroush Rafiei and Vahid Amiri dominating the midfield. Oston Urunov also caused trouble for the Al Ahli defense with his runs down the left flank. Despite their efforts, Persepolis was unable to find the back of the net, with Al Ahli goalkeeper Edouard Mendy making critical saves to preserve the lead.

In the first half, Persepolis came close to equalizing when Ali Alipour’s header forced a reflex save from Mendy. Uronov missed the follow-up attempt, but Persepolis continued to press forward. A penalty was awarded to Persepolis just before halftime, but after a VAR review, the decision was overturned much to the relief of the Al Ahli players and fans.

In the second half, Al Ahli pushed for a second goal to put the game out of reach. Ivan Toney and Roger Ibanez had their chances, but Persepolis goalkeeper Guendouz made some crucial saves to keep his team in the game. Al Ahli also had an opportunity to double their lead from the penalty spot, but Mahrez’s attempt was saved by Guendouz, keeping Persepolis in contention.

Despite Persepolis creating some late chances with Uronov and Al Kasir, Al Ahli’s defense stood firm to secure the victory. Toney had a chance to seal the win but missed his shot in the closing moments. However, Al Ahli managed to hold on to claim all three points and set a positive tone for the rest of their AFC Champions League campaign.

In conclusion, Al Ahli Saudi FC started their Elite League Stage campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Persepolis FC. The goal from Kessie proved to be the difference in a closely contested match that saw both teams create opportunities but struggle with their finishing. With this victory, Al Ahli will look to build on their momentum and continue their success in the AFC Champions League.
