The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai recently opened two new bridges as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project. These bridges aim to improve traffic flow in the area. The first bridge is a 2-lane, 601-meter structure that serves eastward traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, leading northward towards Al Qusais and Deira. It has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour and is expected to reduce travel time by 40% during peak hours.

The second bridge is a 2-lane, 664-meter structure with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It eliminates overlapping of traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road heading southward towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. This bridge is expected to cut travel time by 70%, from 21 minutes to 7 minutes. A third bridge, spanning 943 meters with two lanes in each direction, is set to open in October. This bridge will connect the intersection of Garn Al Sabkha Street with Al Asayel Street, improving traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, the completion rate of the project has reached 97%. The project also includes improvements to a 7km stretch of intersections on the service road parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Additional enhancements include the installation of street lights, traffic signals, traffic systems, storm water drainage networks, and irrigation systems. These upgrades will further facilitate traffic movement and enhance safety for motorists in the area.

The new bridges are part of the RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and address traffic congestion in Dubai. By improving connectivity and reducing travel times, these bridges will benefit commuters and residents alike. The strategic location of the bridges at key intersections will help streamline traffic flow and ease congestion on busy roadways. With the opening of these bridges, motorists can expect a smoother and more efficient travel experience in the region.

The Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project is a significant infrastructure development that will have a lasting impact on the transportation network in Dubai. By increasing capacity, reducing travel times, and enhancing safety, these bridges will contribute to the overall improvement of the city’s road infrastructure. The completion of the project is a testament to the RTA’s commitment to enhancing the transportation system and providing a better experience for residents and visitors in Dubai. Overall, the opening of these new bridges marks a milestone in the ongoing efforts to create a more efficient and sustainable transportation network in the city.
