The Southern Municipal Council in Bahrain recently discussed the delay in implementing maintenance requests for parks, tree trimming, and general cleanliness in the Southern Governorate. Council President Abdulla Abdullatif highlighted the poor condition of the Al Estiqlal Park due to a lack of proper maintenance. He mentioned that trees near the park’s health facilities have encroached on the mosque’s restrooms, causing inconveniences to users, including the elderly. Council member Ali Al Shaikh proposed allocating an emergency fund in the budget to address urgent issues such as fallen trees and trimming.
Council member Hamad Al Zaabi emphasized the urgent need for development in several parks in the Ninth Constituency of the Southern Governorate, particularly the Safra Park, which lacks play equipment. He also stressed the importance of improving the appearance of the Zallaq Highway by removing damaged trees, trimming existing ones, and providing lighting, considering the high traffic of residents, visitors, and tourists. Hassan Al Dosari noted that the Tenth Constituency has 12 parks in a state of disrepair since 2018, lacking lighting and essential amenities.
Additionally, Ahmed Al Abdulla stated that five parks in the Sixth Constituency of the Southern Governorate lack lighting, and the district is facing challenges related to waste containers, cleanliness, and park maintenance. The Southern Municipal Council reviewed responses from ministers, officials, and relevant authorities regarding the council’s recommendations and proposals. The Ministry of Education and Training confirmed that the student population in residential Blocks 718-720 in Zayed City does not meet the criteria for establishing a new school for any educational stage.
Students from these blocks attend schools in nearby areas, and the ministry provides transportation services for them annually. The ministry also ensures that schools in the Zayed City area are equipped with necessary resources in coordination with relevant entities. The ministry considers the increasing number of students in these schools in its future plans for construction projects to achieve a balance in student densities. The Southern Municipal Council is working towards addressing the maintenance and development issues in parks in the Southern Governorate to improve the quality of life for residents, visitors, and tourists.
