Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new airline, has announced that it will be conducting test flights from Riyadh to Jeddah in order to receive its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). The airline will be using a B787-9 aircraft leased from Saudia Airlines to fly to various domestic and international destinations. This is all part of the process of proving flights before officially launching commercial flights in 2025.

In a statement posted on social media, Riyadh Air expressed its excitement for the historic day as they embark on noncommercial flights from the capital city of Riyadh. The airline emphasized the importance of the AOC process required by GACA and thanked key stakeholders for their support. The first flight, RX5001, will depart from King Khalid International Airport to Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport on Thursday, September 12. Riyadh Air plans to operate a series of rotations to different destinations over the coming months as part of their flying program.

Riyadh Air highlighted the collaboration with Saudia Airlines, Riyadh Airports Company, Saudi Technic, and Alsalam Aerospace Industries Company in preparing for the test flights. These partnerships have been essential in ensuring the aircraft’s optimal condition, securing hangar facilities, and providing comprehensive support along the way. The airline sees this moment as a significant milestone in its journey towards its maiden commercial flight in 2025.

The new airline, Riyadh Air, aims to establish itself as a key player in the aviation industry in Saudi Arabia, offering both domestic and international flights to passengers. The test flights from Riyadh to Jeddah are a crucial step in obtaining the necessary certifications from GACA to start commercial operations. The use of a leased B787-9 aircraft from Saudia Airlines demonstrates Riyadh Air’s commitment to providing high-quality service to its customers.

Riyadh Air’s decision to conduct proving flights ahead of the official launch in 2025 underscores its dedication to meeting all regulatory requirements and ensuring the safety and reliability of its operations. By working closely with key stakeholders and partners in the aviation industry, Riyadh Air is positioning itself for success in the competitive airline market in Saudi Arabia. The airline’s focus on delivering exceptional service and creating a seamless travel experience for passengers sets it apart as a promising new player in the industry.

As Riyadh Air prepares to embark on its maiden commercial flight in 2025, the airline is committed to building a strong foundation for its operations through strategic partnerships and rigorous testing processes. The test flights from Riyadh to Jeddah mark the beginning of Riyadh Air’s journey towards offering a wide range of domestic and international flights to meet the needs of travelers in Saudi Arabia and beyond. With the support of GACA and key stakeholders, Riyadh Air is well-positioned to establish itself as a trusted and reliable airline in the region.
