Minister of Communications and Information Technology H E Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai recently presided over the opening of the Universal Postal Union Strategy Forum for the Arab Region in Doha, Qatar. The two-day forum, hosted by Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority in collaboration with the UPU’s Regional Office for the Arab Region in Doha, aims to bring together postal leaders and representatives from across the Arab region to discuss the future strategy for postal services and strengthen regional cooperation.
During his opening remarks at the forum, President of the Communications Regulatory Authority Eng Ahmad Abdulla Al Muslemani highlighted the importance of the proposed strategic framework for the UPU’s 2026-2029 cycle. This framework will address emerging trends and challenges facing the global postal community and provide a platform to explore key issues such as digital transformation, the integration of advanced technologies, and the enhancement of sustainability in postal operations. It also presents an opportunity for Arab nations to contribute to global discussions and ensure their priorities are met within the Universal Postal Union.
Qatar has recently taken significant steps to advance its postal sector by enacting the Postal Services Regulation Law and developing a comprehensive Postal Sector Strategy. This strategy aims to foster competition and innovation, align with Qatar National Vision 2030, and position the country as a regional leader in communications and postal services. Public consultations and workshops have been initiated to review the Postal Licensing Framework and engage postal service providers to drive sector development and transparency.
The forum will focus on presenting a new strategic framework for the 2026-2029 cycle, with a particular emphasis on enhancing global connectivity, promoting technological innovation, and fostering cooperation among member states to align postal services with global digital and economic transformations. Key topics to be explored include global connectivity, the role of digital infrastructure, and innovations shaping the postal industry. An interactive session will delve into UPU technologies and their potential to address market demands, with the forum concluding with a summary of key outcomes and a roadmap for future postal strategies at both regional and global levels.
