The Southern Municipal Council recently addressed the delay in implementing maintenance requests for parks, tree trimming, and general cleanliness in the Southern Governorate. Council President Abdulla Abdullatif expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of Al Estiqlal Park due to inadequate maintenance. Trees near the park’s health facilities have encroached on the mosque’s restrooms, causing inconvenience to users, especially the elderly. Meanwhile, council member Ali Al Shaikh proposed allocating an emergency fund in the budget to address urgent issues like fallen trees and trimming, emphasizing that while street trees are being addressed, park trees are neglected.

Council member Hamad Al Zaabi highlighted the urgent need for development in several parks in the Ninth Constituency, particularly Safra Park, the largest park in the area lacking play equipment. He also stressed the importance of improving the appearance of Zallaq Highway by removing damaged trees, trimming existing ones, and providing lighting. The high traffic of residents, visitors, and tourists necessitates these improvements for safety and aesthetics. Additionally, Hassan Al Dosari noted the neglected state of 12 parks in the Tenth Constituency since 2018, lacking essential amenities and lighting.

Furthermore, council member Ahmed Al Abdulla raised concerns about the lack of lighting in five parks in the Sixth Constituency of the Southern Governorate. The district is also facing challenges related to waste containers, cleanliness, and park maintenance. These issues need immediate attention to ensure the well-being of residents and visitors. It is crucial for local authorities to prioritize these maintenance and cleanliness efforts to enhance the overall quality of life in the Southern Governorate.

In response to the council’s recommendations and proposals, the Ministry of Education and Training clarified that the student population in residential Blocks 718-720 in Zayed City does not meet the criteria for establishing a new school for any educational stage. Students in these blocks attend schools in nearby areas, with the ministry coordinating transportation services annually to meet regulations and standards. The ministry ensures that schools in the Zayed City area have all necessary resources and plans construction projects to balance student densities in these schools. Planning for future educational infrastructure is crucial to accommodate the increasing number of students in the region.

In conclusion, the Southern Municipal Council is actively addressing the maintenance and cleanliness issues in parks and public spaces within the Southern Governorate. Urgent actions are needed to address the neglected parks, insufficient lighting, and cleanliness challenges in various constituencies. Collaboration between the council, relevant authorities, and community members is vital to ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors, and tourists. The Ministry of Education and Training’s efforts to address the educational needs of students in Zayed City demonstrate a commitment to providing quality education while planning for future infrastructure developments. By working together, stakeholders can enhance the overall livability and attractiveness of the Southern Governorate for all.
